An organization that started with contributions from Borders Book Store employees is now helping independent book stores across the country. The Ann Arbor-based Book Industry Charitable Foundation originally had a mission to help Borders employees with bills after personal emergencies, medical problems, and other unexpected events.  When the company folded in 2011, the foundation remained.
