Do Republicans have the votes to pass changes to Obamacare?
Today members of the U.S. House of Representatives are expected to vote on a plan to repeal parts of Obamacare and replace them with a different system that would change the way people get healthcare and can be compensated for coverage.
It’s still unclear whether Republican leadership has the votes to pass the plan. It’s the first true test of President Donald Trump’s ability to negotiate a big government deal.
Resch Strategies founder Matt Resch, former spokesperson for then-Lieutenant Governor Dick Posthumus, joins Detroit Today host Stephen Henderson to talk about the future of the health care proposal.
Resch says whether or not the Republican plan is popular or good, Obamacare is an expensive and floundering system that needs fixing. He says state governments and individual taxpayers are overburdened with higher-than-expected costs.
“We don’t have endless funds,” says Resch. “It’s the business of government to try to do things with limited resources… there’s not endless money to do these things.”
