Young students across Michigan and elsewhere are no longer required to get courses in handwriting and cursive.  Michigan and some other states no longer require handwriting as a curriculum. Educators say teachers are instead focusing on requirements for standardized tests. And technology is taking away the need for putting pen to paper. But the curriculum organization Handwriting Without Tears hopes to keep teachers and students interested in learning cursive. Valerie Zaryczny is an occupational therapist working with Handwriting Without Tears. She tells WDET’s Amy Miller that research shows learning advantages for students who master handwriting.
