Red Wings Playoff Hopes on Thin Ice
Team is in last place in NHL Atlantic Division.
The Detroit Red Wings have appeared in the National Hockey League playoffs 25 straight times, winning the Stanley Cup in 1997, ’98, 2002, and ’08. They haven’t made it past the first round of the postseason since 2013. They entered the All-Star break in last place in the NHL Atlantic Division with a record of 20 wins, 20 losses, and nine overtime losses. With 33 games left in the regular season, the team’s string of consecutive playoff appearances is in jeopardy of ending. Helene St. James covers hockey for the Detroit Free Press. She tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller fans will know by mid-February whether the Wings will make the playoffs or start rebuilding. Click on the audio player to hear the conversation.
