Knight News March

WDET has an exciting announcement!

The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation has selected WDET to receive a $25,000 matching grant as part of their initiative to support independent news organizations. They believe in the vital role that quality journalism plays in promoting a healthy democracy.

At a time when false information can spread quickly on social media, when newsrooms have been shrinking nationally and locally, WDET has continued to invest in high-quality, ethical journalism that is deeply rooted in the Detroit region. Our reporters care about providing accurate information and engaging our community in helping us identify the voices and perspectives that too often are missing in mainstream media.

Here are just a few of the stories we featured this year:

With the support of our listeners and this generous grant from the Knight Foundation, WDET’s newsroom will be in a stronger position heading into 2017 and better able to continue reporting on the events, decisions, people and ideas that are shaping our region. This is only possible when you become a stakeholder in WDET and invest in independent journalism that serves our community and not corporate interests.
