WSU Researchers Looking at How Individual Genes React to Specific Environmental Factors
Example: gene tied to BMI reacts to caffeine and helps some lose weight
Researchers at Wayne State University are looking at how health is affected when our genes and environmental factors are mixed. The study, in its early stages, is looking at specific exposures like how specific genes react when exposed to caffeine. Assistant Professors of Molecular Medicine and Genetics Francesca Luca and Roger Pique Regi say so far the results show that genes that interact with components of our daily environment have a large influence on a person’s risk of disease. Luca and Pique Regi tell WDET’s Amy Miller that the study sample is very small compared to all possible environments, but a big step forward from what has been previously explored.
