The Progressive Underground 193: JAZZTRONICA: A profile of the ACID JAZZ genre
On this episode of TPU, we spotlight the genre of ACID JAZZ………………………..
This weekend’s Progressive Underground is a special edition that explores the sound stylings of the acid jazz genre (of the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s). The term “acid jazz” originated in 1988 as both a record label and compilation series that reissued jazz-funk music from the 1970s (referred to as “rare groove”) and later developed into a movement.
Host Chris Campbell will delve into deep cuts from the architects behind the genre such as the Brand New Heavies, James Taylor Quartet, Groove Collective, Galliano, Jamiroquai, Mondo Grosso, Buckshot LeFunque, United Future Organization and so many more!
The action takes place this Sunday, 8 pm – 11 pm on 101.9 WDET and wdet.org.
