WSU Police Officer Is On Life Support

Suspect has had run-ins with WSUPD before.

Wayne State University President M. Roy Wilson says a WSU police officer remains in critical condition Wednesday after being shot Tuesday night. The officer, Collin Rose, was investigating possible thefts from vehicles in the Woodbridge neighborhood near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Trumbull when he was shot around 6:45 p.m. A man described as a “person of interest” was taken into custody for questioning around 10 p.m. WSU Police Chief Anthony Holt says the suspect has had confrontations with his department before, and was arrested on outstanding misdemeanor warrants. Holt says investigators must collect physical evidence before charging the suspect with shooting Rose.

Pres. Wilson says Rose, 29, is a member of the university’s canine department and has served on the force for more than five years. Wilson says it has been 36 years since a university police officer has been shot.

“Please keep all our police officers in your thoughts,” Wilson said. “These dedicated, professional men and women serve us courageously, and we owe them our gratitude and support.”

Rose is engaged to be married.
