GM Opens New Solar Array at Warren Transmission Plant
General Motors says it plans to get all of its electrical power from renewable energy sources by 2050.
General Motors has unveiled a 900-kilowatt solar array at the Warren Transmission Plant.
It’s part of the company’s commitment to operating globally on 100% renewable energy by 2050.
Rob Threlkeld is GM’s Global Manager of Renewable Energy. He says the automaker leased excess space in the plant’s parking lot to DTE Energy.
“They, in turn, built an array basically, the power goes back to the grid, so which support their requirements as well as our community engagements,” Threlkeld says.
Threlkeld says DTE Energy made all of the investments for the array.
He says other renewable power transitions will also be funded through purchasing agreements with energy companies.
