Help in a “Warrant-Free” Zone
Friend of the Court offers free counsel on custody, child support.
Parents with questions about child custody, child support or similar issues will have free access to legal consultation this Saturday.
At least 30 family law attorneys are expected to be on hand at the event at the Detroit Public Library. Deputy Administrator for the Family Division of Third Circuit Court Kent Weichman says the event is free to anyone who needs advice, including those who have may have warrants.
“One of the advantages of going out to the Detroit Public Library is it’s a safe site. We call it warrant-free zone. Even if someone has a bench warrant for child support, it’s not going to be served while they’re at the public library or anytime around there. It’s a way to come in and get advice on how to address child support obligations.”
Friend of the Court in Wayne County handles over 20,000 child custody and paternity cases each year.
The free legal program is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the main branch of the Detroit Public Library, 5201 Woodward Ave.
