Lear Corporation has opened a new innovation center in Detroit’s Capitol Park.

The Southfield-based company plans to use a recently renovated building to develop new automotive products and technologies.

Lear President and Chief Executive Officer Matt Simoncini says the innovation center will be a place for creativity.

“Our programs initially with Wayne State and CCS will be about 10 students each from each school here along with Lear’s staff. The vast majority of our staff will be designers and engineers.”

The new center will include a showroom, modern offices and a rooftop garden for special events.
