US Economic Development Administration invests $4.1 Million in Detroit
The grant will help create jobs and re-industrialize the city.
The City of Detroit is receiving $4.1 million in grant money from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to help reindustrialize the city.
The money will be used to redevelop Georgia Street on Detroit’s East side in the I-94 Industrial Park, a 200-acre area zoned for manufacturing and warehouses.
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan says the project allows the city to supply parts to multiple companies.
“With the redevelopment of Georgia means the next plant that comes along, we can tell them all the infrastructure is in place which gives us a significant competitive advantage landing future programs,” Duggan says.
Duggan says the industrial park will also allow trucks to get to the highways without disturbing the surrounding neighborhoods.
He says the project will create more than 600 new jobs and attract more than $120 million in private investments.
