Maker Faire Detroit is not your father’s summer street fair. This weekend at the Henry Ford in Dearborn, hundreds of tech enthusiasts, crafters, scientists, and other makers and tinkerers will bring their wares and showcase their ideas and creativity. Organizers say visitors can expect to see “everything from robots, flame shooters and animatronics to solar-powered mechanical sculptures and fashionable finds.”

Patricia Mooradian is the president of the Henry Ford. She speaks with Detroit Today host Stephen Henderson about Maker Faire Detroit, which runs on Saturday and Sunday this weekend.

She tells Henderson the event is a “terrific fit” both for the Henry Ford and the region as a whole.

“The whole do-it-yourself culture is thriving here,” says Mooradian. “And it really supports the whole mindset of manufacturing and making things in America.”
