Sterling Civic Theater Welcomes All
Noah’s Ark Program casts people with special needs.
A local community theater offers people with disabilities a chance to perform that they might not otherwise get. The Sterling Civic Theater’s “Noah’s Ark” program helps individuals with special needs to participate in its productions. Executive Director Larry O’Grady tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller he was already acting in local shows when he started the theater. He says Sterling Civic’s goal is to be inclusive.
“If you audition, you’re in the show,” O’Grady says.
He says Noah’s Ark is especially designed for children to act regardless of their needs.
“We have kids with Down’s Syndrome, we have kids and adults that have physical impairment, and we adjust our production to the cast,” O’Brien says.
The Sterling Civic Theater presents a stage production of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” July 22-23 and July 29-30 at the Henry Ford II High School Performing Arts Center. Click here for more information.
