Replacement Process for Late State Rep. Plawecki Underway
It’s an unusual process for an unusual situation.
The process is underway to name a replacement on the ballot for state Rep. Julie Plawecki (D-Dearborn Heights), who died suddenly late last month. Tuesday is the deadline for potential candidates to submit their names.
Plawecki was unopposed in the August Democratic primary. So when she died suddenly last month while hiking in Oregon, there was no alternative candidate.
Now, a special committee of three people will be named by Democratic precinct delegates in Plawecki’s Wayne County state House district to choose a candidate, who will be the party’s nominee in November. It’s an unusual process for an unusual situation.
The district leans Democratic, but two Republicans are running in the August primary for the right to be the GOP nominee in November.
