The Detroit Police Department says it has no new leads in the lockdown of the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center yesterday.

A gun was spotted in a briefcase at a security checkpoint. The owner had already stepped onto an elevator before he could be stopped, forcing the evacuation of the building. A person of interested was located, but Detroit Police were unable to prove he owned the gun.

Sergeant Michael Woody says with no new information the case is closed for now.

“We’re going to chalk it up as lessons learned here. There’s a lot we can learn from situations like this. And improve on our services and how we can better serve and protect our citizens,” Woody says.

Woody says starting July 1st the building will hire off-duty Detroit Police Officers to help with security.
