Platform For Growth: New Development Project Includes Neighborhoods

New development company seeks to build in Detroit, and not just in the business districts.

Fisher Building

A new development company called the Platform has ambitious plans to build in Detroit. The $250 million project includes 1,000 new apartments in Midtown, Tech Town, and the New Center area. But it also involves new development in three of the city’s most distressed neighborhoods. Peter Cummings is the Platform’s principal owner and developer. He tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller vital neighborhoods are critical to Detroit’s recovery.

“First of all, we think that any company that’s dedicated to creating housing in the city, and retail in the city, needs to have a focus in the neighborhoods and a commitment to the neighorhoods,” Cummings says.

Cummings says Platform has chosen three neighborhoods for new development: Brightmoor, Liv-6 (Livernois-Six Mile), and an east side neighborhood.

Cummings and a group of business partners bought the Fisher Building last year. The Detroit News reports the Fisher will be part of the Platform’s latest project.
