Castroneves Hopes Detroit Puts Poor Indy Finish in Rearview Mirror
Helio Castroneves returns to site of first Indycar win, Detroit, after hit from behind knocked him out of Indy 500 lead.
The race drivers who brought roughly 300,000 fans to their feet at last weekend’s Indy 500 are setting up shop on Belle Isle for the Detroit Grand Prix.
Actually it’s now known as the “Dual in Detroit,” the only event on the Indycar calendar that features two complete races, one on Saturday and one on Sunday.
Perhaps no current Indycar driver is better known than Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves, who gained fame as both a winner of the TV show Dancing With the Stars and as a three-time winner of the Indy 500.
Castroneves had a rough time at the famed Brickyard trac last weekend, leading for a time until he was hit from behind by another car, dropping him far down in the standings.
The Brazilian driver tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter the Detroit Grand Prix is a chance to put the poor result at Indy behind him, though Castroneves admits being knocked from the lead at the 500 still gnaws at him.
