Memorial Day Travel Could Be Highest Since ’07

AAA is forecasting about 1.2 million Michigan residents will take a holiday trip.

AAA is expecting the busiest Memorial Day weekend in Michigan in nine years. The auto club projects nearly 1.2-million people in the state will travel at least 50 miles from home, and 91 percent of them will go by automobile. AAA spokesperson Susan Hiltz tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller the extra traffic will require extra caution. The group’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report shows the average gasoline price in Michigan is $2.38 per gallon. It was $2.74 a year ago. Click on the audio player to hear the conversation.
