Detroit residents who are behind on their water bills can seek assistance through a new payment assistance plan. The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department introduced the “10-30-50” program for Detroit residents.

D-W-S-D Director Gary Brown says the plan allows customers to pay only 10 percent of their past due bill and spread the remaining balance over two years.

“If a customer misses a payment, they may re-enter plan paying either 30 or 50 percent of their past-due amount,” Brown says.

Brown says there is no income restrictions for the program. Customers can sign up for the plan at the department’s Water Assistance Fair on Saturday.
