Flint Residents Create New Non-Profit to Help the City
The “Community Development Organization” was created by Flint residents to help the city.
A group of Flint residents introduced the non-profit “Community Development Organization” Monday to respond to the impact of the city’s water crisis.
The announcement came on the second anniversary of the city’s switch to the Flint River as a water source.
Activist LeeAnne Walters says the group will collect funds to help get resources to residents affected by the crisis.
“One of the things that we’re doing is that we’ll focus on the medical care first,” Walters says. “But we would like to try and raise some additional money for infrastructure. The more money that can go towards that, the quicker we can get the lead lines out.”
Walter says the non-profit will also offer a peer-to-peer hotline to provide information about resources to help families recover from the lead exposure.
