State Conventions Could Decide GOP Nominee
Mich. GOP picks delegates for national convention amid campaign fears that some are secretly supporting the opposition.
Beginning today Republicans in Michigan are selecting delegates to represent candidates at this summer’s national convention.
But those delegates are only pledged to support a particular candidate during a first round of convention balloting.
After that they can choose whoever they wish, and several presidential campaigns say they fear some delegates will pretend to back one candidate when in fact they secretly support someone else.
A prospective GOP delegate from Michigan, attorney Andrew Richner, tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter campaigns are going to extremes to ensure a delegate votes for who they say they will vote for.
