Poverty Worsens for Michigan Children [Map]
Kids Count report shows increase in abuse, decrease in infant mortality.
A new report says the number of Michigan children living in poverty rose during the Great Recession. The Michigan League for Public Policy’s annual Kids Count survey shows a 23 percent increase in the state’s child poverty rate from 2006 through 2014. Alicia Guevara Warren is the league’s Kids Count project director. She tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller a third of the state’s children live in homes where parents don’t have a secure job.
