DPS Students Create Healthy Meals For Lunch Time

DPS students are competing to create nutritional and budget friendly meals to serve to their peers.

Detroit students are participating in the “Cooking Up Change” competition to create healthy new meals for under a dollar. Four teams from Golightly and Briethuapt Career and Technical Centers will compete Tuesday for their recipe to be added to the lunch menu.

Skyla Butts is with the D-P-S Office of School Nutrition. She says the competition really utilizes the talents of the students.

“We want to highlight that we have some very talented students in our culinary schools or our career technical centers have produced some great students who are very passionate about creating an awesome meal,” Butts says.

Butts says the winner of the contest will go on to the national Healthy Schools Campaign competition in Washington DC. The grand prize is an all-expenses paid trip to tour the nation’s capital.
