A plan that would create a second Ambassador Bridge from Detroit to Windsor is being met with controversy. Residents gave divided opinions about whether or not the U.S. Coast Guard should approve a permit that would create another span of the privately-owned bridge. Supporters of the project say construction of the bridge would create jobs and improve the nearby park, but those who oppose the project say further environmental studies in the highly polluted area are necessary before moving forward. Former state lawmaker Rashida Tlaib is a southwest Detroit resident. She says some people are being bribed to support the Ambassador Bridge Enhancement Project.

“They all came with one group and that was following a person by the name of Malik Shabazz, who is very known to have a strong alliance with the Ambassador Bridge Company.”

Shabazz heads the Marcus Garvey Movement/Black Panther Nation. He says construction of a new bridge would create thousands of much-needed jobs.
