GOP and Democratic Presidential Candidates to Debate in Michigan
Republican presidential candidates have agreed to debate in Detroit next month. Democrats will debate in city of Flint.
Both the Republican and Democratic presidential contenders are scheduling new debates in Michigan.
One of the forums will be held in the city of Flint, which continues to struggle with contamination in its water supply.
For weeks Hillary Clinton has called for a debate in Flint, where the water became tainted with lead after the city began using its river as a water source.
That change occurred under the control of emergency managers appointed by Republican Governor Rick Snyder.
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders says Snyder should resign.
And now Sanders has agreed to debate in Flint two days before Michigan’s March 8th primary.
Republicans are countering by scheduling a debate three days earlier than that in the traditionally-Democratic bastion of Detroit.
Before the latest water crisis Snyder won praise from both sides of the political aisle for having orchestrated Detroit’s exit from the nation’s largest-ever municipal bankruptcy.
