Music Hall Needs A Million $ to Stay Solvent

Performing arts center must raise a million dollars by April in order to make a large loan payment.

 

In the shadow of Comerica Park and Ford Field sits one of Detroit’s oldest entertainment venues. Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts has weathered decades of economic and social strife in the area surrounding it. With more businesses and restaurants opening downtown, Music Hall has also expanded. But its board of directors announced last month that the theater must raise a million dollars by April in order to make a large loan payment. WDET’s Amy Miller recently spoke with the president and artistic director, Vince Paul, about how the area has changed over the last decade. He says the footings were there but the area wasn’t really tied together back then.
