Jim Cantore Talks About El Nino and Flooding

The Weather Channel meteorologist spoke with WDET’s Pat Batcheller

The National Weather Service says last month was the warmest December on record in Metro Detroit. In November, the agency’s local office in White Lake Township predicted a warmer and drier than normal winter for Southeast Michigan, influenced by El Nino. It’s an atmospheric phenomenon caused by higher-than-normal temperatures in the Pacific Ocean. Forecasters say El Nino could cause heavy rainfall and flooding in the southern U.S. this winter. The National Flood Insurance Program enlisted The Weather Channel meteorologist Jim Cantore to tell people about the dangers of flooding. Cantore tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller El Nino patterns typically don’t bring a lot of rain to our region in winter. Click on the audio player to hear the conversation.
