Detroit Lions Keep Head Coach Caldwell
New Detroit Lions GM says Head Coach Caldwell will stay on because both men “share same football philosophy.”
The Detroit Lions’ Head Coach is going to remain the Detroit Lions Head Coach.
The Lions say Head Coach Jim Caldwell will be retained for the 2016 NFL season.
Caldwell’s future was in doubt after Detroit’s disappointing 2015 led to the team sweeping-out high-level executives and luring new General Manager Bob Quinn from the New England Patriots.
But Caldwell helped engineer a strong finish for the team this season and reportedly has support both from ownership and in the locker room.
General Manager Quinn said in a statement that he and Caldwell share the same philosophy regarding how to build a football team.
Caldwell has two years remaining on his contract.
He previously coached the Indianapolis Colts and propelled that team to an ultimately losing effort in the 2009 Super Bowl.
