Libraries Fear Michigan Law could Limit Ballot Info for Voters

A bill passed by Michigan lawmakers forbids public employees, including librarians, from giving info on ballot measures.

A group representing the nation’s public library systems says a bill passed by the Michigan legislature will hurt voters trying to learn about ballot initiatives.

The campaign reform law would forbid government employees from using public funds to provide information about ballot proposals 60 days before an election.

But the head of the American Library Association, Sari Feldman, tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter the Michigan law would also stop libraries from giving voters basic information about ballot measures.
