Behold a Year’s Worth of Detroit Weather in 90 Minutes

DIA acquires local artist’s video showing how nature and industry interact.

Detroit Skyline

An old saying goes, “if you don’t like the weather in Detroit, wait five minutes, it’ll change.” Soon, you’ll be able to see an entire year’s worth of changing weather in 90 minutes. The Detroit Institute of Arts has acquired a video called “Detroit Weather: 365 Days”. Local artist Susan Goethel Campbell created the piece in 2011 by placing cameras on the 22nd floor of the Fisher Building and pointing them at the city. She captured views of the skyline from Lake St Clair to Zug Island. Campbell tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller she wanted to see how weather patterns affect activity on the ground, and vice versa.
