DPD Refurbishes Old Cop Cars for Neighborhood Officers
The Detroit Police Department is refurbishing old police cars for officers to park in their drive-ways.
The Detroit Police Department is working to fix up 40 police cars for neighborhood officers to drive home. Two cars have been refurbished for free by the Metrotech Automotive Group.
Commander Todd Bettision says the department is looking for other shops to volunteer repairing the remaining cars.
“If we can get more folks to step up, more paint shops and have some people help us out, I would love to have all the models on the road by Christmas,” Bettison says. “That would be a great Christmas bonus for our neighborhood police officers who are anxiously awaiting their take-home vehicles.”
Bettison says the take-home program also increases police presence in communities and strengthens the relationship between officers and citizens.
