Transgressor: An Album Release with Tunde Olaniran @ The Elizabeth Theatre | Saturday, August 8th @ 10 PM

One of Michigan’s most dynamic artists since Madonna, Tunde Olaniran swirls together sounds pulled from the wells of R&B, pop and hip-hop. His new record, Transgressor (Quite Scientific Records), marks a significant moment in his career with songs like “Namesake” and “KYBM.”

Tunde also delivers choreography and dance like none other. What’s more, the event is produced by Assemble Sound, so you know the whole production is going to be on point.  Also on the bill are Little Animal, Bevlove, iRAWniq and Mother Cyborg

 

OABI Festival ( Once Around Belle Isle) | August 8th from 11 AM to 8 PM

OABI is an the acronym for “Once Around Belle Isle” — a nod to the is a 7-mile paddle race taking place in the international waters of Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, MI. Bringing out stand-up paddlers, kayakers, rowers, and those who are completely new to paddling. The event offers a newbie-friendly paddlerama with classes and demos, as well as live music, craft beer, food trucks, and a wide variety of paddle vendors.

 

Detroit Improv Festival @ Multiple Locations | Thru the evening of Sunday, August 9th

A bevy of acts, including  SNL stars Horatio Sans and Tim Meadows, have been improving all over the place, and the madness doesn’t cease till Sunday. Snag some tix, sit backs and laugh.

 

Det X NOLA Presents Waterseed & Gabriel Brass Band @ PJ’s Lager House | Friday, August 8th @ 9 PM

Funk, jazz and soul from America’s northern and southern cousins, New Orleans and Detroit. Get ready to sweat and smile y’all.

 

Kevin Saunderson, Matthew Dear, Egyptian Lover & More – Riverside Groove @ Sinbad’s Restaurant and Marina | Saturday & Sunday, August 8th & 9th

Some of the best in techno, house, and electro put down a party on the river. this will probably be one of the best parties of the summer.

 

Ryan Dillaha &  the Miracle Men Record Release @ The Loving Touch | Saturday, August 8th @ 9 PM

Rock ‘n’ rollick as one of metro Detroit’s most prolific performers celebrates the release of the band’s awaited debut LP, “Miracles in Mono.”  A lot of melodies, a little twang, and a shot of bourbon is what this band’s all about.

 

Bites & Beats @ Cafe 78 | Friday, August 7th @ 9 PM

On behalf of Café 78 and Black Catalogue, we invite you to join us this Friday night for our first Bites N’ Beats. Demitart Gourmet / Norma G’s food truck will be on-site serving up Detroit’s favorite Caribbean cuisine, while DJ, music producer, and owner of the Black Catalogue record label, Monty Luke will play an eclectic range of house, techno, dub, and disco. We’ll see you there!
