BMW of North America is recalling about 30,000 Mini Coopers because the vehicles’ seats don’t meet federal safety standards. Select cars from the 2015 and 2014 model years do not meet crash test requirements. A statement from the automaker says the affected vehicles place rear seat passengers at a slightly higher risk of injury during an accident, though the company is not aware of any injuries associated with the problem to date. This announcement expands a previous recall for the same reason last year. Owners of affected models will be notified by mail. They’ll be able to take their vehicles into an authorized dealer to have additional padding installed in the rear interior side panel.
