Law enforcement officials plan to hold a summit with faith leaders in Detroit today to discuss ways to improve security at houses of worship.
The meeting is a response to the recent shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, where nine people were killed while attending a Bible study at a church.
Officials say the violence was racially motivated.
Officials at today’s Detroit summit will offer clergy help in designing and implementing security and emergency action plans.
They will also discuss the latest trends in preventing and prosecuting hate crimes.
The meeting will include the U.S. Attorney for southeast Michigan and members of the FBI, Dearborn Police and Detroit Police departments.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at Wayne State University.
