Here’s an environmental report about Riverside Park that the state is reviewing
WDET obtained a copy of this “Remedial Investigation Report,” done by Stantec Consulting Services Inc. on behalf of DTE Energy at Riverside Park.
Officials at the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality say they will report next week to Detroit City Council about the report. Awaiting that, Council on Tuesday postponed a vote on the land swap deal proposed by Mayor Mike Duggan that would give part of Riverside Park to the company that owns the Amabassador Bridge in exchange for at least $3 million for park improvements and other conditions.
In this report, Stantec reports that during its 2014 investigation of the site:
“…contractors working for the Detroit International Bridge Company (DIBC) were observed to be installing large diameter utilities along the eastern portion of the Site without City of Detroit permission. Barren soil and soil piles were observed on Parcel 1 along the entire eastern boundary. This information and concern over the potential for exacerbation of potential subsurface impacts were communicated to he City of Detroit and the MDEQ. This potential exacerbation is a potential contaminant source area.”
DTE Energy took over MichCon, which had done work at the site, and are responsible for remediation at the park, according to state officials.
