The Belle Isle Conservancy raised $1.1 million during the Grand Prix weekend.  The money raised during an event called the “Grand Prixmiere” will be used for park maintenance.

Conservancy President Michelle Hodges says her group is in the process of deciding how to distribute the funds.

“We want to be data-driven when we are selecting projects to invest in,” Hodges says.  “However, we know that the aquarium and the conservatory are the core of the campus, along with the Belle Isle Nature Zoo that warrants continued investment, so we’re certain that would be a top priority.”

Hodges says other fundraising opportunities are underway for the park this summer.
