Memorial Day Weekend Traffic Could Be Heaviest in Years

AAA predicts a 5 percent increase in travel over last Memorial Day, and lower gas prices.

AAA predicts this Memorial Day weekend will be the busiest Michigan has seen in eight years.

The auto club says more than 1.1 million people will travel 50 miles or more from home, 5 percent more than last Memorial Day weekend. The group also says gasoline prices will be about a dollar lower than they were a year ago. AAA Michigan’s Susan Hiltz tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller the summer travel season is heating up after record cold this winter.
