Northville officials are giving residents an alternative to fix roadways after voters rejected the state’s ballot initiative to raise money for road repairs. Northville’s City Council is putting a millage on the August ballot to annually generate $1 million for street repairs. Public Works Director Jim Gallogly says the city’s roads were recently evaluated and received a quality score of 50 out of 100.

“If we don’t do anything to our roads, that score will fall off to a 40 out of 100 in the next ten years. If we do our program in the next ten years, that score will go up to 60. In the following ten years, it could go up to 70.”

Gallogly says if passed, the millage would triple the $350,000 Northville officials currently spend on roads. He says the measure would cost a resident about $270 annually.
