State Grant to Help Develop New Michigan Chronicle Newspaper Headquarters
About $400k will be used to rehabilitate a building in Detroit’s Paradise Valley.
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation is granting more than $400,000 to help rehabilitate the future headquarters of the Michigan Chronicle newspaper. Funding comes from the Michigan Community Revitalization Program, an initiative that helps restore historic structures. Michigan Economic Development Corporation spokesperson Katharine Czarnecki says the building is in Detroit’s Paradise Valley.
“It’s a building that’s in pretty dire straits. It doesn’t have HVAC. It needs a new roof, access to all the bathrooms, new stair and elevator… I anticipate that once developers and construction experts get in there, they’re going to have to do new wiring.”

Czarnecki says the funding is part of a $3.1 million capital investment going into the property. She says in addition to the Michigan Chronicle, a restaurant is set to move into the space.
