General Motors is donating $4 million to Kettering University.

Half of the money will go toward building a proving ground on the campus, the other half will pay for an advanced  power train facility.

University President Robert McMahan says funding will help provide new opportunities for faculty and students.

“This gives them the ability to access the same kind of practical opportunities that they get in their cooperative experiences, but having it here on campus,” McMahan says.

McMahan says the financial investment in the university is critical in a time of tight budgetary constraints.
