Wayne State University’s journalism program is receiving a $100,000 gift to provide more opportunities for students. Program alum Danialle Karmanos donated the money to launch a project where participants will report on community issues. College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts Dean Matthew Seeger says one student will be selected each year to take part in the initiative.

“The student will receive support to conduct an extensive project in public issue journalism, or community journalism. It might be a documentary film, it might be a website, it might be a long investigative report.”

He says the donation is not the first time Karmanos has funded student projects in the journalism program. He says he expects the new initiative to launch next year.
