World 101: Boko Haram

There’s a lot of news coming out of the African continent these days, and unfortunately, the way it’s covered in most western media makes it easy to conflate very distinct conflicts. Boko Haram and Al Shabob, for instance. With the one-year anniversary of the kidnapping of hundreds of small girls in Nigeria by Boko Haram upon us, it’s a good time to check in with some experts, as part of WDET’s World 101, on what’s really going on with the world’s largest continent. Stephen speaks with Ugo Nwokeji, director of the Center for African Studies and Associate professor of African American studies at the university of California Berkeley, and Jennifer Hart, an assistant professor of African History at Wayne State University.
