Southeastern Michigan Parks Need Volunteers to Clear Out Invasive Species
The Michigan DNR is hosting a series of volunteer stewardship workdays in Southeast Michigan.
State officials are seeking volunteers to help protect parks in Southeast Michigan from invasive species. The Department of Natural Resources is hosting a series of stewardship events for volunteers to remove garlic mustard from Metro Detroit woodlands. State spokesperson Laurel Malvitz-Draper says workers need to spot and remove the invasive mustard seed pods.
“Invasive plants can wreak havoc on our woodland eco-systems and crowd out a lot of native plants and do some chemical warfare in the soil to help inhibit other plants from growing, including most of our native plants.”

Malvitz-Draper says park clean-up events are scheduled for every weekend in April in Washtenaw, Livingston and Oakland Counties.
