Michigan Officials Plan Tornado Warning Drill
Michigan State Police is planning a tornado warning drill on Thursday.
The Michigan State Police will signal a tornado warning this week as part of a state wide voluntary drill.
When the sirens go off Thursday afternoon, officials want residents to practice their own personal emergency plans.
State Police Spokesperson Ron Leix says Michiganders need to be ready to react quickly.
“The average wait time for a tornado to develop is 10 to 15 minutes, which means citizens need to react very quickly when a tornado warning is issued,” Leix says. “So there is not a lot of time to plan and prepare.”
Liex says residents should have a 72 hour supply of food and water. He says people should also keep important documents and medications in a safe place where the items can be retrieved at a moment’s notice.
