Thousands of Cases of Hummus Recalled Because Of Possible Listeria Contamination

The Sabra Dipping Company is recalling 30,000 cases of Classic Hummus because it could be contaminated.

The US Food and Drug Administration is working with a private company to recall thousands of cases of hummus distributed nationwide.

Inspectors in Michigan found the hummus could be contaminated by the potentially deadly bacterium listeria.

The Sabra Dipping Company is voluntarily recalling 30,000 cases of its Classic variety of hummus because they could be tainted by listeria.

Officials with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development detected the possible contamination at the end of last month during a routine inspection at a Kroger grocery store in Port Huron.

The recall affects several versions of Classic hummus with best buy dates of May 11th or May 15th.

Listeria can cause serious, sometimes fatal infections – especially in young children, elderly people or those with weakened immune systems.
