Ferndale May Launch Trolley Service

A new trolley system may be coming to southeast Oakland County and northwest Detroit.

The city of Ferndale is looking to launch a free trolley service that will serve southeast Oakland County and part of northwest Detroit.

It’s called “Fab Cab” and plans have it running along Woodward and Livernois avenues in Pleasant Ridge, Ferndale, Royal Oak, and Detroit.

Jordan Twardy is the director of Community and Economic Development in Ferndale and creator of the project. He says residents already travel between these cities frequently.

“FabCab is meant to link districts that have a lot of strong activity, reduce barriers to participating in those districts for student and families and businesses, all those folks who spend their dollars in those districts and power those communities,” Twardy said.

Twardy says Ferndale will look toward businesses and other municipalities to help fund the service.

He says Pleasant Ridge has already committed $10,000 to the project.
