Remembering Longtime Wayne County Commissioner Jewel Ware
Former State Representative and former member of the Detroit City Council Alberta Tinsley-Talabi joins Stephen Henderson to remember her lifelong friend Jewel Ware.
Jewel Ware, the longest serving member of the Wayne County Commission, died suddenly yesterday of what is reported to be a heart attack at the age of 66. Detroit Today’s Stephen Henderson describes Ware “someone who was… a key champion of the voices of people here in the city [of Detroit], someone who was a pivotal part of the Detroit political landscape.”

Henderson is joined in his remembrance of Ware by Alberta Tinsley-Talabi, who is a former member of the Michigan House of Representatives. Talabi says that Ware was “a trooper of all troopers, a leader of all leaders and a friend of all friends.” Ware, who was friends with Talabi since the age of 14, will be remembered for her fierce dedication to the residents of Detroit’s east side. “She gave every ounce of her life to the people in her district,” says Talabi.
