With their annual fundraising gala and a new exhibition highlighting African-American collectors and artists on deck, the Detroit Institute of Arts is also announcing plans to renew their tri-county millage.

Originally passed in 2012, the museum is putting the millage on the 2020 ballot two years before the current one expires. Residents in Oakland, Wayne and Macomb County — who currently receive free admission to the museum because of the current millage — will cast their votes next spring.

“It’s important that we’re relevant and impactful to our local community,” says David Flynn,  DIA’s senior vice president of community and public affairs. “This millage provides 75 percent of our operating budget and we’re not going to neglect that. We’re going to provide exhibitions and programming for everybody in the three counties.”
