Harvest Moon to Experience Total Lunar Eclipse
Super Blood Moon eclipse can be viewed from Michigan Dark Sky Parks on the night of September 27th.
Stargazers in Michigan will experience a unique astronomical event later this month. It’s called a Super Blood Moon eclipse. It’s a total lunar eclipse that will be visible to many in the Western Hemisphere. Jacquelyn Baker is a spokesperson with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Parks and Recreation Division. She says the skies will offer unusual sights for stargazers.
“They’ll see the lunar eclipse but it will during the harvest moon which is when the moon appears the largest out of any point in the year. It will be a very large moon and you’ll start to see it turn reddish, and when the full eclipse happens, it will be at its darkest point.”

Baker says Dark Sky Parks, where there is legislative protection from man-made light pollution, offer optimal viewing for the phenomenon in Michigan. The Super Blood Moon eclipse will occur the night of September 27th.
